I was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenic, major depression and Anxiety disorder.  I have locked myself in the bedroom with all blinds closed and was fired from my job while I was in the hospital. I was admitted to a mental hospital for a week and I cannot afford my medication it cost 600.00 a month and my therapist cost 200.00 per hour. I need help. I have no where to go. At this time I am staying with a friend but they want me out and no one wants to help me. If I can get my disability I can get a small apartment and work on getting better. However, I was told that disability takes up to six months and I have no money, job, place to stay. Is there anyone out there that will help? In the past I have help people that needed food money, gas, rent but, now that I need help no one is around. I do not have any family except my daughter that you see in the picture but I do not want to go around my grandkids in my condition.  Please help me I am begging you.

Post Open Letter to your Elected Representatives

I don't know where to begin. I am a small business owner with a family of 4. My wife, my 8 year old daughter and my six year old son. We live in an apartment and because we had 3 jobs fall through in the last 2 months we are in serious financial crisis. I am 2 months behind on my rent and have to go to court on the 16 which will possibly result in an eviction. If I come up with the 2 months plus the lawyers fees they will not evict and we could keep our apartment but I have tapped every resource I know and have nothing left to work with. It is quite humiliating to ask for help especially since we have always been the ones helping others. We have no family here where we live and nobody esle to turn to. I am currently putting together a few jobs that are garaunteed to happen but they are still 2 months away and I fear we may be on the street by then. In fact without help now I am sure we will be. I have been applying for any type of work for the past three monts now and nobody is willing to give a small business owner a chance for employment for fear that i might leave them once my business is going well again. I cant sleep at night and my wife who just finished her M.B.A. is going through what might be depression due to the current circumstances. We have managed to keep the severity of our situation from the children so they don't worry and let it affect their school work but as things are they may find out the hard way soon enough. I don't know what is going to happen.

The Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds a number of rental assistance programs, including:

· Public housing programs is low-income housing that is actually operated by your local Housing Agency (HA)

· Section 8 Rental Assistance programs in which the housing agency gives you, the tenant, a voucher. With a Housing Choice Tenant-Based Voucher, you find your own rental unit that meets HUD standards with a landlord who will accept Voucher subsidies. With a Project-Based Voucher, you must agree to live in a unit in a specific Section 8 project.

Other federal rental programs

In rural communities, the Department of Agriculture provides rental assistance programs, home improvement and repair loans and grants, and self-help housing loans to low-income individuals and families. Social fund - help with rent in advance

The social fund is a system by which people on low incomes may receive payments and discretionary grants or loans for needs that cannot be met from their regular income. Payments are made by Jobcentre Plus. Social fund payments are often very hard to get but it is still important to apply. If you are turned down you have a right to a review where the decision may be overturned. Contact an advice agency for help with claiming a grant or appealing against a decision. For further advice contact your local Citizens Advice or housing advice centre.

Housing benefit

Housing benefit is money which enables people on low incomes to pay their rent. You can claim housing benefit if you are 16 or over and whether or not you are working or claiming income support. It is not available to full-time students, unless they have children or a disability.

To get housing benefit you need to fill in an application form which you can get from your local council. The council has a duty to make a payment of housing benefit within 14 days provided they have received all the information and paperwork requested. They will need to see proof of all your income and savings as well as a copy of your tenancy agreement.

Your age, the number of people in your household, the rent you pay and your income, will also affect the amount of housing benefit you will receive. It will not cover charges in your rent for water rates, heating or hot water.

If the rent you pay is high, then the housing benefit section of the council may restrict the amount of money you receive. Always ask the council to assess the maximum rent they will cover for a property (called eligible rent) in advance of signing an agreement. If your housing benefit does not cover your rent, get advice.

No. I didn't get the money I needed.

I do not know where you live but in Nashville (if you go to State School) there is plenty of money for your field. Vanderbilt and other schools have funds for your program.

Also, the feds have a program that will pay for your school. You must agree to every year school is paid for, you must work in a rual area year per year. Nashville has plenty of rual areas that qualify.

My name is Geri and I am a 64 year old widow who is in desperate need of some temporary financial help.  Everything that I own is in storage in Southern California because I made a terrible mistake.  I moved to Brookings, Oregon thinking that it would be a great place to live and go back to work.  You are probably asking where I moved from and why I came to Brookings.  Well it is like this.  After my mother passed away at the age of 96 I decided to leave Southern California for a number of reasons.  One being that I didn't like the town she lived in and never had.  Second I had thought that I would move back to San Jose, CA.  I actually went to San Jose but unfortunately there were no jobs and housing was not within my budget. So I came to Brookings because a friend told me what a nice place it was to live and that there were lots of jobs.  It is a nice place to live but there are no jobs.  At the moment I need some money for rent fast.  I have tried everything I think of to raise the rent money.  Including friends and relatives.  They don't have it. If you can help me it would be greatly appreciated.  I am on food stamps, the state is paying my electric bill, the state is also paying $13.50 on my basic phone bill.  Any amount will be of great help.
